State level Folk Song and Phoushu Eshei Festival celebrated

Centre for Performing Arts and Culture, Manipur Khabam Makha Leikai, under the sponsorship of Ministry of Culture, Gol, organised a one day State level Folk Song and Phoushu Eshei Festival at Hindi Parishad auditorium today.
Students of the Centre presented folk songs as well as Phoushu Eshei as part of the festival.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Guru Soram Apabi of Centre for Performing Arts and Culture, Manipur said that people still follow the practice of Phoushu Esei as the roots of Phoushu Esei are connected with the religious and traditional practices of people.
Awardee Oinam Dhoni said that the elders and experts had explained that Phoushu Eshei was introduced by Ema Nongthang Leima.
She added that there are different kinds of Phoushu Esei which are sung in different rhythmns.
Centre for Performing Arts and Culture Manipur member Chandramala said that the festival was organised with a view to promote folk songs which is a medium that tells a story of the State's tradition and culture.
