Imphal, June 03 2013:
Committee on Protection of Tribal Areas in Manipur (COPTAM) has demanded the State government to appoint the coveted post of Chief Secretary from among the qualified senior IAS officers hailing from the State.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, General Secretary of COPTAM Thangkham Lupheng said the post of Chief Secretary would be vacant after the retirement of incumbent Chief Secretary DS Poonia in the next few months and so the State government should make necessary arrangement to appoint the Chief Secretary from among the senior IAS officers hailing from the State and not officers from other states.
The COPTAM would not remain silent if a non-local officer is appointed as the next Chief Secretary superseding the officers of the State.
The government should sack the officers from the State first if they want to go ahead with appointment of some non-local as Chief Secretary, Lupheng contended.
He further said that the COPTAM would put forward this demand to the government.
