House Committee finds NH-150 widening works off the mark

The Estimates Committee of Manipur Legislative Assembly has found the road widening works being carried out along National Highway No.150 from Malom to Tuibong in a pitiable condition without maintaining proper specifications mentioned in the Detailed Project Report.
The works have been taken up by PWD at an estimated cost of Rs.222 crores under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India.
The members of Estimates Committee comprising Chairman Dr Ng Bijoy, Karam Shyam, RK Imo and Yamthong Haokip along with the officials of PWD inspected the road widening works along NH-150 today.
The works taken up near Nambol Maibam Lotpa Ching were found totally against the norms mentioned in the project details.
The right quantity of bitumen and other materials such as sand and stone chips have not been used in the ongoing works.

The members of the Estimates Committee also grilled the PWD officials for the low quality of work the contractors have executed against the norms of the project.
The Additional Chief Engineer of PWD Tomba admitted their mistakes and assured to make necessary rectifications as soon as possible.
The Committee inspected the works till Bishnupur Police Station.
Speaking to media persons after the inspection tour, Chairman of Estimates Committee Dr Bijoy said that highways need to be widened properly in view of increasing population marked with rapid development.
The Committee has inspected the road widening works with the objective of making the roads and bridges in the State highly effective even in the years to come.
However, he lamented at the quality of work being taken up presently by the PWD and further instructed all concerned to expedite the works following the exact norms of the project.
