Five Meitei villages of Moreh are accommodated as NREGS beneficiaries in the current financial year and job-cards for them will be issued promptly, according to the DRDA of Chandel district.
The DRDA stated that in the first two years of NREGS implementation, the Meitei and Muslim Communities of Moreh had opted not to be NREGS due to communication gap.
However, it added, in the year 2009, under the initiative of Deputy Commissioner of Chandel Devesh Deval, efforts had been made to convince the two communities of Moreh to avail themselves of the 100 days employment-guarantee benefits.
The newly accommodated Meitei villages of Moreh are Khongnangthaba (186 houses), Mongyamba (160 houses), Heinoumakhong (180 houses), New Khunou (170 houses) and Turel Wangma (188 houses), it stated.
The DC had distributed job cards under NREGS to twenty beneficiaries out of the said applicants in a public meeting held at Trade Centre, Moreh following receipt of applications from the five villages, it further added.
