Imphal, June 12 2009:
The 100-hour general strike called by All Jirighat Forum along NH 53 (Jirighat-Silchar stretch) over the missing of two metal scrap collectors of Jiri-ghat since May 25 has been called off today with the intervention of 5 Assam Rifles.
According to our Jiribam correspondent, the 5 AR under the aegis of 57 Artillery Brigade organised a peace meeting where leaders of civil organisations belonging to Jiribam and Jirighat participated to end the conflict between the border towns of Assam and Manipur.
Second in-Command of 5 AR Lt Col UC Kaundal and Maj Manmohan presided over the peace meeting held at Jiri Railway station.
