Imphal, October 28 2012:
On the occasion of Mera Houchongba, the proscribed UG group, Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) and its armed wing People's Liberation Army (PLA) have greeted the people of the state and urged them to participate in Mera Haochongba occasion with a sense of responsibility and unity.
In a statement signed by its Secretary Publicity, T Leisemba, RPF stressed that Mera Houchongba is a festival in which people from both hills and valley participated with the sense of brotherhood and oneness.
It is a festival which aims to unite the people of the state while promoting culture, traditions and sports.
Unfortunately, the festival lost its zeal after 1709 following advent of Hinduism in the state with the then king out casting the hill people as untouchable.
But if one looks into the theme and message of the festival, they can know that it is a festival of everlasting bond of brotherhood and peace.
It is through this bond that Manipur has stood firmly against any external threat, the statement said, while appealing to the people of the state to participate in the festival with true spirit of brotherhood.
