Imphal, October 28 2012:
The MMC and IPDS, organisers of Miss Manipur 2012, have appealed Apunba Ima Lup and other civil society organisations to lift the ban on organising beauty contest.
While admitting the presence of scantily dressed contestants during the screening of Miss Manipur, a statement issued by H Subhash Singh, secretary of IPDS has also tendered apology for the inadvertent 'mistake' .
Meanwhile, All Manipur Nupi Manbi Association clarified that members of AMNA or transgenders have not designed any outfits or dresses that compromised with the dignity of women while appealing the concerned organisations to lift the ban on the profession of the transgenders.
A statement issued by AMNA general secretary, Santa Khurai said that the transgenders could provide self employment to themselves only as make-up artists, fashion designers, and shumang leela artists though they want white-collar jobs.
They have been facing social stigmatisation.
It therefore urged the women's organisations to lift the ban imposed on the profession of the transgenders.
