Seminar on local attires begins

A two day seminar on 'The Indigenous customary and traditional dress code and ornaments of all ethnic communities of Kangleipak' commenced from today at Keishamthong Kabui Khul community hall as a part of the 10th Indigenous Brothers' Meet.
Presenting the key-note address, event convenor Heikujamcha Ibotombi Khuman noted that with the passage of time and societal changes the real identity of the indigenous peoples have been steadily on the wane.
As the present day societies are being transformed into composite nations there is need for contribution from every section of the indigenous communities to protect and preserve their unique identities.
Pointing out that since 2000 Indigenous brothers' Meet are being observed to enable research scholars and resource persons to deliberate on the issue of the indigenous peoples losing their respective identities, he maintained that this year too the two day seminar will deliberate on ways to protect and preserve identity of the indigenous communities with specific focus on the customary and traditional dress code of the indigenous peoples.
Gracing the occasion as the chief guest, Uripok AC MLA L Nandakumar Singh said that taking into account Manipur's identity as a multi-ethnic society there is need for spreading the message of peace and cordiality.
In a similar vein, MLA RK Anand stated that the mothers have an important role to play in not only preserving identities of the respective communities but also inculcate spirit of oneness to their wards.
For reviving the age-old fraternal bond amongsts various communities settled in Manipur preserving the customary dress code and upholding the traditional values are very much essential, he said.
The indigenous Brothers' Meet is being organised by The League of the fourth World People, Kangleipak and was also attended by the League's vice presidents Hungyo Mera Tangkhul and Mangangcha Keisham Ibomcha.
The first day session of the seminar held with Director (Art & Culture) Dr K sobita Devi as the moderator saw a number of NGO representatives elaborating on the seminar theme.
