Marams revel in cultural festival

Imphal, October 28 2012:
The first Maram Cultural festival was held on October 27 at Maram Centre, Senapati district with much extravaganzas.
The festival was organised by the Maram Khullen Circle Students and Youths' Association.
Various cultural songs, dances, traditional games and sports were displayed during the fest apart from staging traditional food items.
Chiefs of Maram villages, student leaders, public leaders and church leaders have attended the carnival.
RD and PR Minister Francis Ngajokpa graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Speaking at the occasion, Francis said Maram community is one of the oldest communties of the State.
He said preserving and protecting the rich cultural heritages of the Maram community is the bounded obligation of younger generation.
Maintaining that art and culture can bring closer relation with other neighbouring communities, Francis said the generosity of the Maram forefathers should be displayed by the present generation by showing love and goodwill to travellers along the NH-2 in times of need.
The chief guest has also distributed prizes to winners of various competition of the festival.
