Delegates of Tribal Youth Council, Manipur (TYCM) met the Governor of Manipur and submitted a memorandum highlighting various demands and grievances with main focus on the need to strengthen Manipur Tribal Development Council (MTDC) .
Informing this to mediapersons during a press conference at Manipur Press Club here today, M Tolkham Maring, President of TYCM said that the TYCM delegates called on the Governor on October 26 and submitted an eight point memorandum, apart from discussing issues related to development of Hills and Tribal areas in Manipur.
During the meeting, the delegates pressed the Governor for strengthening Manipur tribal Development Corporation (MTDC) which was established in 1979 and highlighted its malfunctioning, Tolkham said, while pointing out that like other agencies, MTDC is a corporation meant for Hill Tribals of Manipur, but is not being taken seriously by the state government.
The TYDC delegates also urged the Governor to award MTDC as an agency to implement the works for prosperity of the State including infrastructural development of all the Colleges in the Hills and also to enforce the "Hill Areas" Act 371C of the Indian Constitution of India, he added.
