NSF pursuing NBSE affiliation with fresh hopes

The Naga Students' Federation is still pursuing its dream to facilitate affiliation to NBSE by schools in Tamenglong, Chandel, Ukhrul and Senapati districts according to a report published in morungexpress.com under the headline 'NSF ends goodwill tour at Senapati' dated June 27 .
Winding up the first phase of its 8-day goodwill tour to Naga inhabited areas, the NSF met Naga organisations in Senapati district at Tungam village Community Hall on Monday.
NSF president, Kelhouneizo Yhome reiterated that the Federation is still behind the issue of affiliation for schools from Naga inhabited areas of Manipur with NBSE.
"We will pursue the matter till the goal is achieved," he said.
Special secretary Naga People's Organisation Senapati, Adani said that the move for affiliation to NBSE was prompted by the people's desire for an 'alternative arrangement' .
He suggested that the NSF approach the Nagaland government or the NBSE to open exam sub-centres in Tamenglong, Chandel, Ukhrul and Senapati districts for the convenience of the students.
Some speakers were doubtful that the Manipur Government will grant an 'alternative arrangement' and issue No Objection Certificates for affiliation of schools with NBSE.
ANSAM Tribunal General, David said that at least 3% of jobs be reserved for Nagas outside the present state of Nagaland.
Mao Students Union Tribunal General Lokho Ozho apprised the NSF of the tension that prevailed, especially for Mao students, in and around Jakhama, during the restriction of social mobility for Mao people by the Southern Angami Youth Organisation within its jurisdiction.
Poumai Students' Union president, Thopao Thomas highlighted the burden of numerous taxes on people from Mao and Senapati whenever they transport vegetables and other small goods.
According to him, the check gates where taxes are collected include: Chumukedima check gate, Kohima by-pass, New Reserve, Khuzama check post, Mao Gate etc.
Several speakers spoke about the problem of excessive taxation by the 'national workers'.
They expressed the desire that the 'national workers' exempt Naga entrepreneurs from taxes for some years.
Some wanted the amount of taxes reduced while others wanted the list of products being taxed to be cut.
On the Naga issue, ANSAM Tribunal General David said that the people are not clear about the status of the Naga political talks and expressed the desire of the masses to know the clear position of the talks.
The meeting in Senapati was hosted by the Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) and attended by Maram Students' Union, Mao Students' Union, ANSAM, Poumai Students' Union, Naga People's Organisation Senapati, elders and other public leaders.
During the meeting, the Senapati District Students' Association expressed desire to be affiliated with the NSF as a subordinate body.
In response, the NSF president said that the Federation will look into the matter in consultation with its senior members.
In the second phase of the goodwill tour, the NSF will be touring Eastern Nagaland, and in the third phase in Naga inhabited areas of Myanmar, Assam and Arunachal.
In the fourth and last phase, it will meet the various Naga underground groups.
The dates for these phases will be fixed at a convenient time.
