Imphal, August 23 2018:
In protest against several issues faced by nurses in the State and the country, the Trained Nurses' Association of India (TNAI), Manipur State Branch organized a silent rally at Imphal West district today.
The rally was a part of the One Day Nationwide Rally organized by respective TNAI branches of the Indian States and Union Territories against the same agenda.
Large number of trained nurses including those who are working in different hospitals in the State participated at the rally which took off from the office of TNAI, Manipur State Branch at Uripok Khumanthem Leikai.
It passed through Uripok Kangchup Road and turned towards RIMS road and Concluded at IMA office, Lamphelpat where they later held a meeting.
Speaking on the sideline of the rally, TNAI, Manipur State Branch secretary Ph Rani Devi claimed that hospitals and health sectors run by the Central Government, States/Union Territories and private firms/owners follow unequal pay structures for nurses.
She informed that there are certain pay structures given by certain established authorities in the country and mentioned that in the case of 200 bedded hospitals, 100 bedded hospitals and 50 to below 100 bedded hospitals, the salary given to private nurses should be at par with the salary of their counterparts in the State Governments/Union Territories run hospitals/health care units.
The working conditions such as leaves, working hours, medical facilities, transportation etcetera given to private nurses should be at par with their counterparts in State and Union Territories run hospitals as well.
She went on to inform that many of the hospitals and health care units have vacancies for the post of nurses, including State Health Mission in Manipur, while adding that the vacancies often result to acute shortage of nursing staff in the health sectors.
Urging the Government to fill up the vacancies, she demanded the State Government not to outsource nurses or recruit on contractual basis.
Rani further conveyed that recommendations will also be taken regarding the plights and problems of nurses during the meeting.
