Maram Students' Union (MKS) Go-Green drive concludes

The 3-day long Environmental Interface cum Massive Tree Plantation under Go-Green Mission, 2012 launched under the aegis of Maram Students' Union (MKS) since July 20 at District H/Q.in collaboration with the District Administration, Senapati culminated today at Willong.
With the aim of going-green in and around market/public places and augment the fallen trees in barren land, the mission 2012 witnessed massive participation of business communities of town areas, villagers and students.
The first day saw distribution and plantation of saplings in Senapati H/Q among students of Mount Carmel Academy and Saklim Christian English School Students.
On the second day, plantation was carried out at market places of Lairouching, Maram Centre - Sagongbam, Maram Bazar and environmental interface with P.P.Christian English School and followed by plantation exercise at school campus.
The final day involved plantation by villagers at certain sites along Maram-Peren Road, Sangkungmei and St.
Vincent School, Willong where formal culmination programme of the mission was held.
In the entire exercise of the mission, a total no.of 2,700 saplings (from targeted 3,500 nos.) were distributed and planted.
The various types of saplings included hullock, gulmohar, evergreen and tree beans (yung-chak), etc were planted during the drive.
To ensure the saplings grow properly especially in market places, business communities manning the town areas have been fixed for tree-guard and maintenance in their respective compounds.
The concerned village authorities and local Youths and students' organisations would also be vigilantly monitoring the caring of the planted saplings as part of ownership in the mission.
MKS's GO-GREEN MISSION 2012 is the 4th annual initiative of Tree plantation in the attempt to combat climate change issue and Global warming.
