Imphal, July 23 2012:
The three-day Environmental Interface cum Massive Tree Plantation undertaken by Maram Students' Union (MKS) under GO-GREEN MISSION 2012 culminated today at Willong in Senapati district.
With the aim of going-green in and around market/public places and augment the fallen trees in barren land, the mission 2012 had witnessed massive participation of business communities of town areas, villagers and students, the MKS informed in a statement.
In the entire exercise of the mission, a total of 2,700 saplings (from targeted 3,500 nos) were distributed and planted.
The various types of saplings were: hullock, gulmohar, evergreen and tree beans (yung-chak), the statement said.
To ensure the saplings grow properly especially in market places, business communities manning town areas had been fixed for tree-guard and maintenance in their respective compounds, it added.
