Imphal, July 23 2012:
An Engineer who listed non-existent septic tank and a stair case in the list of assets recorded for providing compensation in connection with expansion of road from Nagamapal Kangjabi to Khoyathong has been warned by the authority whereas re-assessment of affected assets has started anew.
A reliable source informed that the non-existent assets were listed with the apparent intention to claim greater compensation for land and properties affected by the road expansion project.
However, the foul play was detected when the State Vigilance Commission conducted re-assessment of the affected properties belonging to the particular family.
As neither septic tank nor stair case were present, the value of compensation worked out earlier has been reduced while the defaulting engineer of Works Department has been warned duly.
Though the foul play was detected in the case of a single family out of 72 families affected by the road expansion project, the Government has directed the Vigilance Commission to conduct re-assessment of the assets belonging to all the affected families.
However, Commission members met with strong protest from the affected families when they went for re-assessment.
Subsequently, re-assessment was carried out in the presence of commandos, informed the source.
