11th Science Communicators Meet ends on positive note

The 11th Science Communicators' Meet held as part of the 105th Indian Science Congress concluded today at the Court Hall of Manipur University.
The event was graced by Education Minister Th Radheshyam Singh; Dr Rajinder Singh, Scientist D, NCSTC Division, New Delhi and ProfN Rajmuhon Singh.
Speaking at the occasion, Prof PP Mathur, General Secretary (Scientific Activities) pointed out the objectives of the Science Communicators' Meet, saying it was held to understand what has achieved through science communication, communicate science to grassroots level and to highlight the problems solved by western world scientists and their innovations which helped the common people in the society.
In his presidential speech, Dr Rajinder said that improvement in the lives of common people has changed with the help of science communication.
Minister Radheshyam expressed happiness over holding such a mega event in the State, saying it will help the young minds.
He asserted that the meet will improve the level of awareness in creating new innovations.
Science should be an enabler in solving the problems in the society and make our lives easier, he added.
The Minister further appealed to the scientists and mentors to guide young minds for the welfare of the society.
Presenting the summary report of the meet, Prof Rajmuhon said that numbers of papers were submitted for oral and poster presentations and out of 25 papers, 16 papers were presented in the technical session of the oral deliveries.
Some of the important areas of science that have been presented by the communicators include medicine, bioremediation, bioinformatics, wetland management, role of communication media, traditional ethno medicine and eco-tech-nology, he elaborated.
The technical sessions were attended by about 150 participants including delegates, lecturers, researchers and students from universities and colleges from all over India, he informed.
He said the two-day meet was indeed a grand success despite the quick scheduling of the event.
He expressed hope that the meet organized in Manipur University will be remembered as one of the most historic event in the State.
