Drunken man chops off wife's fingers

Imphal, July 18 2013:
In a shocking incident of domestic violence against women in the State, a woman lost three of her fingers when her husband tried to hack her using a machete in an inebriated condition at Salungpham Yambem in Thoubal district at around 10 pm yesterday.
The injured woman has been identified as Maibam Ongbi Thoithoi (45), while her husband as Maibam Tolenkhomba.
Thoithoi is currently undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital and Research Institute, Langol.

Family members of Thoithoi said the incident happened when Tolenkhomba came with a machete to hack his wife, who was sitting in their neighbour's courtyard.
In a state of inebriation, Tolenkhomba raised the machete and tried to hit his wife.
Thoithoi lost her fingers while resisting her husband's attack.
Having lost three of her fingers, Thoithoi ran away from the spot crying in utter pain.
Her husband Tolenkhomba also fled from the spot soon after the incident.
Meanwhile, the locals of Salungpham rounded up accused Tolenkhomba and handed over to police today.
