Imphal, July 18 2013:
Taking serious note over granting bail to three persons involved in the February 24 last Pallel drug scam, All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMDA) has expressed doubts that the power of court seems to be feeble when comes to awarding extreme punishments to drug-smugglers in the State.
In a statement, Y Sundari Leima, Vice President of AMADA pointed out that people have welcomed the judgment of the court to suspend the four rapists of U-morok vendor from their posts and put them behind bar for life.
The mass also expected the same magnitude of punishment to drug smugglers.
Unfortunately, the court has left them out on bail, she lamented.
Sundari went on say that as many high ranking bureaucrats and political leaders are involved in the major drug scams, the state government has not been serious on the drug smuggling, and the clearest example is handing over the case of infamous Tulihal Airport drug scam to CBI without any charge sheet, thereby compelling the investigating body to turn down request of probe.
The AMADA Vice President has also appealed to the legal experts, Young Lawyers' Forum, AMBA and other associations to take special attention towards the issue of drug smuggling in consideration of the future of Manipuri society.
