Imphal, July 18 2013:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has urged State Health Minister and Commissioner to resign from their respective posts immediately for failing to interpret the ruling of Supreme Court on MBBS/BDS Entrance Test.
Addressing media persons at the office of DESAM here today, President Wangmayum Islauddin said that the State Pre-Medical Test was scheduled to be held on June 9, but it got cancelled all of a sudden on June 6 following a decision of State Cabinet citing a Supreme Court ruling, which is not related to the issue of conducting of State Pre-Medical Test at all.
So, the Health Minister and the Commissioner are incapable and they are not fit to remain in their respective posts as they had misled the public by misinterpreting the ruling of Supreme Court, he averred.
The students' body demanded the authorities concerned to conduct the State Pre-Medical Test (PMT) as soon as possible in accordance with the ruling of the Supreme Court.
Islauddin said that a bench of three Judges of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice Altamas Kabir quashed the Medical Council of India's (MCI) notification for holding common entrance tests (CETs) for MBBS, BDS and post-graduate medical courses.
The State Cabinet's decision has been rendered meaningless by this ruling and so the authorities concerned should conduct the State PMT at the earliest, he enjoined.
He further appealed to all concerned not to cause unnecessary interference in the procedures for conducting State Pre-Medical Test.
