Army rebuttal

With reference to certain sections of media reporting about torture and harassment of one Nailin Malangmei of Satudai village on July 14 by the Army, as claimed by Naga Women's Union and Rongmei Lu Phwam, a PIB (DW) statement said the claim is a false propaganda by people with vested interests who do not appreciate the cordial relations between the Army and villagers of Khoupum area.
Footprints of Army in the area has ensured that the population of Khoupum are no longer staying under constant threat to life and property from the underground cadres.
Operations by the security forces have also restricted the unhindered movement of UGs in the area, maintained the statement adding that the Army has always taken utmost care to ensure no human rights violations occur and believes in carrying out its operations in a fair and unprejudiced manner.
It has been and will always remain the endeavour of the Army to respect the sentiments of the local populace.
The Army has and will continue to strive for peace and prosperity in Manipur through amicable interaction rather than confrontation, the statement added.
