Minister inspects shops in Imphal bazar area

Imphal, October 06 2011:
Minister for Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution, N Biren went for an inspection of the stock of goods and prices in shops in and around Dharmashala area, Imphal today.
The inspection team was also accompanied by a team of media persons.
After inspecting the stock position and the price in the shops Minister N Biren told media persons that there is enough stock of essential commodities in the market for at least 10 days.
The people should not panic.
The essential items are also sold at a rate which is much lower than the price fixed by the Price Fixation Committee of the state.
He further went on to say that rice under the PDS is being carried from Jiribam to Tamenglong head quarter directly.
There is enough stock of rice in the district.
In a recently held meeting between the Government and transporters, Chief Minister O Ibobi had offered subsidies to the transporters but instead they asked for elaborate security arrangements on national highways and the same has been done, Biren said.
Now since essential commodities are being lifted frequently on daily basis and there are enough stock of goods, the panic situation has declined to 90% as compared to the situation before 20 days", a shop owner told reporters.
The prices of essential commodities like potatoes, onions, etc.
are sold at Rs 16 and Rs 26 per kg respectively.
The lifting charge per Kg of goods has decreased and quantities of goods flowing in through Jiribam have also increased, Minister Biren said.
Now, goods are stored at Silchar too.
The oil tankers which have already arrived in the capital will start distributing oil to the various pumps from tomorrow, Biren further informed the media.
