NWU celebrates foundation day

The Tangkhul Shanai Long hosted the 21st foundation anniversary of the Naga Women's Union at Tangkhul Theological Association Centre, Ukhrul on october 5 which was participated by 42 delegates from different constituent units from four districts.
According to a Union release, Rev Dr YL Minthing elaborated on the theme 'Harmony with nature' and emphasised on protecting the ecology and today's environment as well as need to live in peace and harmony with nature.
The highlight of the celebration included remembering NWU's pioneer leaders, proverbs on women, poems and short stories of mother's love and naga girls today declaimed by representatives of the tribes, maintained the release.
NWU also felicitated ten toppers and outstanding women including world women boxing champion MC Mary Kom in addition to recognising and appreciating women who made their first access into the men domain like K Matia of Robunamai, Senapati district who became the first woman speaker of the village council; Kamei of Machiang in Tamenglong district who became the first woman chairperson of the village; and K Marigold, who was inducted as Social and Culture secretary in the United Naga Council.
