UNC blockade supporters burn loaded truck

Imphal, October 06 2011:
In yet another incident, blockade supporters of UNC Thursday burnt another loaded truck between Langkhong and Lukhambi area along the NH 37 even as a Tata Sumo fell down a deep gorge injuring its 10 occupants at Lairou area on NH 2 .
The ill fated truck was part of a column of loaded trucks under security escort which came from Jiribam yesterday.
The truck remained behind the column as its crown broke at a place 10 km away from Noney Keithel last night.
It was heading for Imphal alone with some police personnel of Noney police after replacing its crown when the blockade supporters of UNC armed with swords, spade and other weapons stoped it at a distance of some two km ahead of where his crown was broken.
They poured fuel on the truck and torched it down before they fled the scene.
The area was under the ROP operation of the 6th Manipur Rifles led by its Deputy Commandant.
Troops of 10 Assam Rifles, 86 CRPF and Noney police led by its OC, rushed at the spot and doused off the fire before it consumed the whole truck.
However most of the truck including the rice it was ferrying was burnt in the arson act.
In the meantime, 398 loaded trucks including 21 petrol and diesel tankers and three bullet tankers have reached Imphal safely from Jiribam under tight security escort.
Meanwhile, a passenger Tata Winger coming from Dimapur to Imhal fell into a deep gorge at Lairou area along the NH 2 injuring its 10 occupants.
The injured passengers were rushed to the Senapati District Hospitals.
All are out of danger.
