State Everesters given grand reception

The mountaineers from the State who were part of the Ist Northeast Top of the World Mount Everest Expedition-2013 were given grand reception at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex here today.
The youngest Indian Everest summiteer N Chingkheinganba, first woman Everester from State N Bidyapati and three other Everesters namely Puyamcha Mohon, Ch Shangker and Ph Bidyachand along with team leader of the Expedition Dr L Surjit, expedition doctor Dr L Nelson and two other members N Robert and James Waribam were warmly received by hundreds of people at Imphal Airport today.
Later on, they were honoured at a grand reception organized by Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA) and Observation Committee of the 12th Great June Uprising and Unity Day-2013 (UCM and AMUCO) at Khuman Lampak.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman of the Observation Committee of the 12th Great June Uprising and Unity Day-2013 KT Rahman said that the mountaineers from the State have brought laurels to the State by conquering the World's highest peak, Mount Everest.
They have shown to the World the courage and die-hard spirit of the Manipuris, he lauded.
Manipuris could have been well recognized by the World in games and sports if they were not under the Indian Union.
They should not be complacent and keep on striving to achieve excellence, Rahman exhorted.He further appealed to all to show unity and strength of the Manipuris by taking part in the joint observation of the Great June Uprising and Unity Day on June 18 at Kekrupat.
The reception function was also attended by founder President of MMTA RK Ranendrajit and Vice-Chairman of Observation Committee Y Nabachandra.
On the other hand, Social Welfare Minister Ak Mirabai has awarded Rs.50,000 each to two Everesters from Patsoi Assembly Constituency namely expedition leader Dr L Surjit and youngest Indian Everester N Chingkheinganba.
The award was presented to the Everesters in a reception ceremony organized by the local clubs of Patsoi at Uningkhong Bazar Community Hall today.
Congratulating the Everesters, Mirabai said that the duo, Surjit and Chingkheinganba, have brightened Patsoi Constituency with their remarkable feat of conquering the highest mountain peak of the World.
They are the stars of Manipur and gems of Patsoi, she lauded.
She also congratulated other Everesters from the State as well as from other NE States who were part of the 1st North East Top of the World Mount Everest Expedition.
The State Cabinet has also decided to reward Rs.10 lakh each to the Everesters and expedition leader, Mirabai noted, while encouraging the youths to show off their potentials in games and sports and bring laurels to the State.
