Imphal, June 06, 2013:
Chairman of Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) P Dhanakumar has termed the present teaching methodology in pre-primary stage as a major factor for children's spoilage.
He was speaking as Chief Guest of the 26th Kongkham Sanghai Memorial Award Ceremony held at Nambol Kongkham Makha Leikai today.
Dhanakumar further maintained that most educationists all over the World have perceived one's mother tongue as the best medium for learning in pre-primary stages, but children in Manipur are being taught in English medium.
This could be another reason for declining patriotic feeling among children, he noted.
The Chairman contended that children should not be taught to mug up their lessons, rather they should be taught to understand their lessons thoroughly.
There is a big difference between a topper and a well-educated person, he stated.
Dhanakumar further pointed out that not all private schools are good and not all government teachers are bad.
The government needs more focus on pre-primary education which is one of the most vital stages in one's educational career.
The award ceremony was also attended by President of Kongkham Shangai Memorial Trust Kongkham Jadumani and retired General Manager of Bishnupur District Industries Centre H Birendra as President and Guest of Honour respectively.
The top mark scorers in HSLC Examination-2013 from Nambol Assembly Constituency namely N Thoithoiba and Th Domenkumar were awarded Rs.7000 and Rs.5000 cash prizes on the occasion.
