High alert and swift action by CRPF personnel reportedly prevented major damage of properties and possible loss of live when a fire broke out close to the Sangakpam storage facility of Indian Oil Corporation Limited last night.
According to a source, the fire started from a residence belonging to one Leimapokpam Thambalngou at around 9.30 pm and threatened to spread to the surrounding areas.
It is speculated that source of the inferno might be from an unattended candle.
spotting flames from the said house, personnel of 'E' Coy 69 Bn CRPF posted at the IOC depot not only informed Manipur Fire Services but also rushed to the scene with water and other fire-control materials.
The CRPF men under the command of Inspector DK Singh continued to assist the fire department personnel in controlling the inferno, maintained the source adding that battalion Adjutant RL Fimate and other CRPF personnel also arrived at spot.
Even though the house suffered substantial damage timely action by the security force prevented collateral damage, added the source.
