Imphal, October 03 2014 :
Aggrieved and infuriated by the nonperformance of Primary Health Centres of Tamei and Tousem, local people have locked up both the PHCs.
Not a single doctor is available at both Tamei PHC and Tousem PHC.
As such people coming from far off places, specially women who came for child delivery did not get any medical care at both the PHCs.
This infuriated the local people no end and they decided to lock up the PHCs which have miserably failed their purposes, informed a source.
The matter came to light when Tamenglong Chief Medical Officer/Mission Director Dr Chaubo Gonmei visited the two PHCs on an inspection tour on September 11 .
Even though it was not known when the two PHCs were locked, pregnant women have not been getting any medical care at the two PHCs for almost a month and immunization of newly born babies has been halted for the same period of time.
CMO/Mission Director Dr Chaubo Gonmei has, in the meantime, written to the Health Director to send requisite medical officers to the two PHCs so that they can resume their normal function early.
The villagers have been suffering no end due to the absence of doctors.
The CMO's letter mentioned that Dr M Chandrajoy, Dr W Ratankumar and Dr Napoleon Huidrom posted at Tamei PHC and Dr M Ibochouba posted at Tousem PHC have not joined their respective places of posting.
Even though Dr G Ramcharan joined Tousem PHC once, stay order has been issued with regard to his transfer order, the CMO's letter further pointed out.
