Advocacy seminar conducted

A one day advocacy seminar on the rights of persons with disability was organized at KCC Hall, Saikul by All Disabled Union Sadar Hills (ADUSH) in collaboration with Manipur North Economic Development (MANEDA) on September 30 .
Apart from 70 disabled persons from villages within Saikul sub-division, Church leaders, civil organizations and village authorities attended the function in full strength.
Speaking on the importance of organizing such seminar, Ahen Chongloi, president of ADUSH exulted that people's view towards the disabled persons have changed spectacularly.
The disabled persons he added, on have also realized their values and have become more social friendly.
Mangboi Singsit, Project Officer, MANEDA emphasized on the rights entitled to a disabled person under the Constitution of India, Persons with Disability Act, 1995 and the National Trust Act 1999 .
Johnson Kaikho, former president of Senapati Disabled People Association Manipur (SDPAM) articulated his optimism that sooner or later the disabled person too would enjoy equal opportunities.
Sharing his experience as the president of SDPAM, Johnson asserted that he had faced a hard time due to lack of awareness among the Govt officers regarding the rights and protection granted to disabled people by the Constitution of India and the UN.
While accounting the activities of ADUSH, Kamlienlal Guite, General Secretary of ADUSH called all willing persons for the upcoming second All Manipur Disabled Sports Meet and to submit their details at the organization or at the Union office.
