A havildar of the Assam Rifles committed suicide Wednesday morning by shooting himself with the service weapon issue to him at Chavangphai post of the 31Assam Rifles in Chandel district, a police source said.
Police registered a case in connection with the suicide of the havildar identified as Ramesh Singh (46) son of Bachlas of Basantapur village, Ashokpura district of Madhya Pradesh as the authority of the Assam Rifles lodged a complaint with the Moreh police station.
As per the complaint lodged by the Assam Rifles, the havildar committed suicide this morning at around 4.10 am at the barrack of the AR post at Chavangphai located 3 km north of Moreh police station.
In another unrelated incident, a youth was shot dead by miscreants last night at the courtyard of his own house at Sekta Makha Leikai under Lamlai police station, Imphal east district.
The killing took place tonight at 9.50 pm and the slain youth was identified as Shijagurumayum Ukin (35) son of late Bira Sharma.
According to the family source, out of five miscreants come to the house last night two of them intruded into the house and insist him to go with them for a talk on certain matter.
After having talks for some moment, on of the miscreants took out a small gun and shot him at least three times hitting at the head and stomach.
He succumbed to injuries at the spot.
The motive behind his shooting to dead could not be immediately confirm.
But in the recent time, there was an instant of killing his younger brother by miscreants around two year back.
