Imphal, April 29 2009:
THE CPI candidate of Inner Manipur in the 15th Lok Sabha Election, Dr M Nara has on Wednesday said that there is high possibility for the conduct of re-poll at the 16 polling stations in Inner Manipur following the submission of a complaint letter to the Election Commission of India by a delegation of the Left Democratic Coordination Committee.
Dr M Nara, who returned to Imphal from New Delhi today along with the state CPI (M) leader Kshetrimayum Shanta, told re-porters at Irawat Bhawan here that the delegation team has submitted a representation to the ECI on April 28 demanding re-poll at 16 polling stations in the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
He said the delegation team has been assured of initiating the required steps within a short time if their complaints are found genuine by the ECI Officials.
The polling stations where re-poll is sought include 11 stations in Andro Assembly Constituency, three polling stations in Thoubal district, and one station each in Khundrakpam and Patsoi ACs.
During the 40 minutes long talk, the ECI officials were apprised of the alleged 'unfair' conduct of the recently concluded election in Inner Manipur where the Congress has manipulated the process, Dr Nara said adding, the ECI officials have also been asked to correct the wrong.
Besides, the delegation team of the Left Democratic committee has also strongly insisted the ECI Officials to initiate fitting action against N Brojen, a government employee and the distant relative of Chief Minister Ibobi, who has been alleged of rampant misconducts during the election, Dr Nara said.
Dr Nara further said that a report has been sought from the state Chief Election Officer and Returning Officer of the Inner Manipur Constituency by the ECI on the matter.
He said that an order has been issued for the conduct of re-poll at 22 polling stations in Orissa, which went to the polls at the first phase of election on April 16 last.
Likewise re-poll is likely to be conducted at the 16 polling stations in Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
