A NEW police rule has necessitated all two wheeler riders and pillion riders to wear helmet with immediate effect while riding in the City.
Expressing concern over the fatality of accidents occurring without helmets, a press note issued in this regard by the Senior SP of Imphal West district, L Kailun stated that the Imphal West district police will be conducting a special drive to enforce wearing of helmets in the city.
"Therefore it is informed to all two wheeler riders and pillion riders to wear helmets/head gears now onwards and anyone found not wearing helmet/head gear will be fined and challan as per existing rate with immediate effect," the police release stated.
The police release mentioned that wearing of helmets/head gears by two wheeler riders as well as pillion riders are compulsory under Section 129 of Motor Vehicles Act, 1958 .
