A reliable source informed The Sangai Express that the Ministry of Urban Development has given assent to the State Government's "Development of Urban Renewable Project for Nambul River and Naga Nullah".
The project will be implemented by Irrigation and Flood Control Department as work agency and MAHUD Department as nodal agency.
The project will be implemented within this year.
Under the project, the portion of Naga rivulet from Khoyathong to Kasturi bridge will be covered with a roof to make space for parking lots.
Moreover, necessary measures will be initiated to check disposal of waste materials, garbage and other effluents into the rivulet.
The project will cover Nambul river from Khoyathong to Keishampat.
Concrete stairs will be built from both sides of Nambul river banks to the river bed at several points of the river stretch besides planting flowers and other ornamental plants along the stretch of the river banks.
The project also envisages to make the filthy river and its surrounding areas into a beautiful and clean space by putting up decorative lighting systems along the river course in the project area, conveyed the official source.
The project also includes a comprehensive plan to build cantilever bridges connecting the two banks of Nambul river and Naga rivulet at several points.
However, at present, Nambul river and Naga rivulet are serving as natural drainage of Imphal city with all waste materials and garbage discharged into them.
