AWID imparts training to enhance livelihood for Ukhrul villagers

In an effort to enhance means of livelihood in the rural areas, the Action of Women in Development (AWID) had on Wednesday organized a daylong training on poultry, piggery and backyard nutrition garden for the farmers at Ukhrul.
The daylong programme, which was held for select beneficiaries from Ukhrul district, was attended and imparted training by officials from Veterinary department and Krishan Vigyan Kendra (KVK) .
Dr.Th.Dibendra Singh, joint director, District Veterinary Department of Ukhrul, spoke and enlightened the participants on various technological applications needed in poultry management.
Stating that the poultry farming is a viable and important means for sustainable livelihood, Dr.Singh advised the villagers to change the chick rearing method by adopting technological proven system.
He recommended proper housing system, balanced feeding, use of proper equipments and select breed, and systematic brooding in poultry farming.
Solei Luiram, a subject matter specialist from KVK, gave an experienced-driven training session on the Backyard Nutrition Garden, while Dr.Ngahorshai Luithui, veterinary officer from Ukhrul Veterinary department, enlightened the participants on piggery management.
Earlier, AWID secretary Jayanti Keishing delivered an introductory speech and highlighted the activities of the organization.
Today's programme was organized in collaboration with the Imphal-based RNBA.
The daylong training, which is part of the second phase programme of AWID, was attended by villagers from Maramphung, Marem, Kuirei and Kalhang.
