Imphal, April 11 2012:
Concerned over the alleged messy handling of State/Central sponsored developmental projects particularly the Border Area Development Programme in Ukhrul district, the Border Area Villages' Association has urged not to politicise the process of awarding any work agency in BADP for effective implementation of the scheme at the grass root level.
In a statement, Secretary of Border Area Villages' Association (BAVA), T Zingkhai pointed out that rural road connectivity, absence of proper medical care facility, want of proper educational infrastructures/facilities are the major physical characteristics of far flung border areas.
Slamming the Government for its alleged apathy in developing and providing adequate infrastructures in the region, the BAVA statement called for immediate course of action to redress the grievances.
It pointed out that several lives have been lost in the area due to frequent outbreak of epidemic in the absence of proper medical care facility.
The statement also charged that various rights like education were not accessed to the denizens of the area due to negligence on the part of the Government.
BAVA further urged the Government not to individualise any proposed work or scheme under BADP and other major works involving politicians and other selfish individuals.
