Imphal, June 29 2021:
Human beings are social animals.
As such, it is foolish of some people not to get vaccinated against the Covid-19 pandemic and endanger the lives of others and their own, said All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) secretary publicity Brojen Irom.
In a release, the secretary said that in connection with the upcoming polls, the size of gatherings of people for preparation of the same is gradually increasing.
Instead of whining about long curfew hours and other inconveniences, people should get vaccinated at the earliest as this is the only solution to all of the issues.
Curfews/lock-downs are no longer feasible solutions to the pandemic but mass vaccination is.
This will allow the government to roll back on its orders for imposition of curfews/lockdowns and help in returning to our normal lives.
"The issue surrounding the Covid-19 vaccine in Manipur is not related to concerns about the vaccine itself, but rather related to political interferences, long vaccination process and queues, misinformation on social media platforms, etc.
The absolute control of local MLAs in the vaccination process rather than handing over the responsibility to local clubs is also a factor behind low vaccination rate", it observed.
The release continued: "The prolonged curfew/lockdown has affected the people greatly and as such, the government should do its duty to extend help wherever possible.
The government seems to have missed the point that the curfew/lockdown has led to shortage of food.
Food will obviously take priority over any vaccine and as such, the government and the generous entities, should consider integration of the distribution of edibles and other items to the people along with vaccination programmes.
Additionally, face masks and hand sani-tisers are important in the fight against the pandemic but the poor cannot afford to purchase the same every day for each member of the family.
Thus, the government could identify the more needy families and extend more assistance in addition to edibles and other items by helping them to get vaccinated" .
Meanwhile, AMUCO in collaboration with All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) and United Clubs' Organisation Bishnupur District (UCOBID) distributed edibles to around 191 households in Bishnupur District on Tuesday.
The edibles were distributed to 47 families in Saiton; 36 in Wangoo and Kumbi area under United Kumbi Area surrounding Clubs' Organisation (UKANCO); 90 in Thanga, Karang, Keibul Lamjao, Naransena and Sunusiphai areas under Moirang and Surrounding Villages United Clubs' Organisation (MASVUCO); and 18 families in Kwakta area under Kwakta and Surrounding Villages United Clubs' Organisation (KASVUCO) .
The distribution was attended by AMUCO president Pheiroijam Nando Luwang, AMAWOVA general secretary Kshetrimayum Sujata and United Clubs' Organisation Bishnupur District (UCOBID) president Thokchom Noren.
