Tamenglong, September 15 2012:
The long awaited dream of the people of Tousem area to have a bridge constructed over Makru River finally realized with assistance from BDO office Tousem sub-division.
People from over nine villages including Old Mandeu, New Mandeu, Junkuak,Pumram, Aben, Kandihang, etc.
will be benefiting from the construction of the bridge.
The bridge, which was originally made of bamboos and cane, was built temporarily by the people only for monsoon season as they used to cross the river by foot during dry season.
However, the villagers of Mandeu have proudly erected a suspension bridge in a matter of 2 weeks engaging over 30-40 people who worked day and night.
Armstrong Pame, IAS, SDO/BDO Tousem, the man behind the success of this project, while talking to the reporter, highly commented on the works of the villagers and said that comparing to most of the works done under many work agencies, the newly constructed bridge is several times better than other bridges.
He also promised to take the matter to the higher authorities including the local MLA Kikhonbou Newmai and Executive Director of DRDA, Tamenglong for further necessary assistance.
The newly constructed bridge is wide and strong enough to sustain the weight of a motorbike to cross over it.
It is believed that the bridge can be used for next 3-5 years.
The villagers are very confident that the quality of the materials used is one of the best and the bridge would be able to withstand the force of strong water current.
