Sharmila donates books to State Library

Irom Chanu Sharmila, who has been on fast for more than 12 years now demanding repeal of AFSPA, has expressed discontentment over the extension of disturbed area status in Manipur and said that she is perturbed over the silent attitude of the State Government to the grievances of its own people.
Sharmila today donated over 80 books written by various writers to the State Central Library.
The handing over of the books was done at the security ward of JN Hospital where the staffs of Central Library came to visit her.
The officials of Central Library who visited Sharmila included L Premananda, Ratan, RK Rajeshwari and Y Chanchan.
This is the fourth time that Sharmila has donated books to the Central Library.
She has already donated more than 300 books so far.
So, the Central Library has opened a section called "Sharmila Collection", the staffs informed.
Talking to media persons on the occasion, Sharmila said that she used to visit Central Library and read books at one point of time.
Around 80 books written by various authors that were presented to her have been donated to the Central Library today so that the library is enriched with more good books and the people can read them.
There are still around 100 books with her, Sharmila disclosed.
Sharmila further stated that she has heard about the decision of State Cabinet to extend disturbed area status in Manipur for another six months.
"It is very unfortunate that the Government do not understand the feeling and sentiments of its own people", she added.
On the decision of the State Government to take over Sana Konung, Sharmila stated that even after the State Government has announced its decision to take over Sana Konung, no agitations from the CSOs of the State could be felt till today and this has saddened her even more.
