NHRC to hold open hearings

Following a directive of the Supreme Court of India to probe cases of fake encounter and scams related to Loktak Phumdi Clearance Project and other Centrally sponsored schemes in Manipur, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) would hold an open hearing at Imphal.
According to an official source, in connection with the proposed open hearing, Assistant Registrar of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) AK Parasar had come to Imphal on May 22 and returned yesterday.
Parasar had informed that the open hearing would be held likely from June 18 to 20.He had also intimated the civil organizations, non-governmental organizations and rights groups for submission of documents and affidavits pertaining to cases of fake encounter and scams in the implementation of Loktak Phumdi Clearance Project and other Centrally sponsored flagship programmes in the State.
The open hearing is a follow up of the inspection made by a team of officials from the Central government in 2009 for the implementation of various Centrally sponsored schemes in the State.
The State government had submitted a detailed report about the projects to the officials.
The open hearing would be conducted to review the implementation of those schemes again in the State, especially for Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Generation Scheme (MGNREGS) which ensures 100-day employment to every job card holder of rural household, and the Indira Awaz Yojana which provides housing scheme for the rural poor.
The NHRC will also take up those cases of fake encounter which were not heard earlier by the independent inquiry committee set up by the Supreme Court.
