Jiribam, May 25 2013 :
Jiribam Sub-Division of Imphal East district has been in complete blackout since May 13 following the failure of 5 MVA Power Transformer.
The transformer had been repaired in December last year at the cost of Rs.30 lakhs.
Meanwhile, all civil organizations including Meira Paibee Lup of Jiribam have resolved to launch intense agitations by blocking the National Highway and closing down Jiribam Electricity Office if the authorities concerned fail to restore power supply in the Sub-Division by installing a new transformer by May 27 .
The resolution was taken jointly by AJUCA, JDO, AJMP, JIMPAL, WAKAK, AMSU and MSF in a meeting held at the office of All Jiribam Meira Paibee today.
The members of the civil organizations contended that Jiribam is a hot climatic region and the power failure has made their lives extremely difficult in this summer.
They demanded the authorities concerned to install new transformers in the sub-division instead of repairing the old ones.
The Executive Engineer of Jiribam Electricity Office Dorendro Sharma has also assured the people of restoring power supply as soon as possible by repairing the other 3.15 MVA transformers.
