Imphal, November 06 2015 :
Kwatha Environmental Management and Developmental Organisation (KEMADO) rescued a ten feet long Rock phython at Kwatha village of Chandel district.
A press note issued by Peoples for Animals, Manipur (PFA) said that some members of KEMADO found the python being brought from nearby forest by few fishermen.
It is said that the python was captured after being electrocuted using some device.
On hearing the news, a PFA team rushed to Kwatha and rescued the reptile and a special permission for transportation was sought from Chief Wildlife Warden Manipur, said PFA.

General Secretary of KEMADO, Ningthoujam Deven along with executive members handed over the animal to PFA.
It may be mentioned that KEMADO is a brainchild of Manipur Forest Department and PFA Manipur.
PFA Manipur said that fishing by electrocution is widely practiced by hill dwellers in the streams of Manipur.
Python gall bladder is said to be smuggled to Myanmar from Manipur for further onward transportation to China and other Asian countries where it fetches a premium as it was sold for making traditional medicines.
PFA note said that many people in China and South East Asia believe that python's gall bladder cures ailments like fever, cough etc.
It is reported that unscrupulous wildlife smugglers come to collect the reptile parts from villages.
After procuring the parts at a cheaper rate, they further send them to destinations which would fetch higher returns.
Indian rock python is listed in schedule 1 and trading of the reptile is illegal.
In another development, a young leaf turtle and an elongated turtle were also handed over by one Angom Basanta of Kwatha to KEMADO.
Basanta is said to have rescued the animals from fishermen, said PFA Manipur.
