Imphal, November 06 2015 :
The result of the coming bye-elections to the Thongju and Thangmeiband assembly constituencies will be an indicator where Manipur would be heading soon.
Whether or not Manipur will remain integrated or disintegrated depends on which party the electorate chooses to vote, opined Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam on Friday.
Gaikhangam was speaking at a Congress political conference held at Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai in connection with the election campaign of INC candidate in Thangmeiband A/C Jotin Waikhom for the November 21 bye-election.
Calling on the people to be cautious on choosing the right candidate, the Deputy Chief Minister stated that BJP had the habit of bringing trouble to Manipur whenever it rules at the Centre as witnessed in the past.
The State saw a massive uprising during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee led NDA Government at the Centre over the extension of NSCN (IM) ceasefire coverage area to Manipur and now the recently signed Naga Peace Accord has already stirred enough apprehension in the minds of the people, said Gaikhangam.
He blamed the BJP led Government at the Centre for hiding the contents of the Naga Peace Accord and the framework agreement.
"Such a party is contesting in the coming bye-elections and now the people should remain ever vigilant as voting for BJP in Manipur will bring doom to the State.
Gaikhangam also pointed out that since the BJP was an alliance partner of Naga People's Front (NPF), every one knows what the BJP will be doing later on.
The Deputy Chief Minister also accused the BJP of not taking up developmental projects across the country other than focusing on renaming national schemes originally implemented by the Congress.
He also alleged that the party was playing the communal card even in Manipur.
"Such communal political parties are not suitable for the people of Manipur since number of indigenous communities have been staying together in the State with fraternal love and understanding," Gaikhangam opined.
The political conference was also attended by MLA K Ranjit, PHED Minister, MLA N Loken, Jotin Waikhom among others.
