Imphal, November 06 2015 :
The forthcoming by-election to Thangmeiband AC and Thongju AC would see pitched political battles between Congress and BJP, between pro-Manipur and anti-Manipur forces, asserted MPCC president and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam.
He was speaking at an election rally of Congress candidate in Thangmeiband AC Jyotin Waikhom held today at Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai.
Gaikhangam appealed to all the people not to undermine the by-election for it is closely related with protection and disintegration of Manipur.
People's mandate would decide the matter.
Congress is a strong political party built up over a period of 120/130 years and it is known for its secular principle.
On the other hand, BJP is a power hungry party which is infamous for its discriminatory policies even among Hindus.

It was during BJP's rule at the Centre that the violent civil movement of June 2001 took place in Manipur.
Not long after it came to power, it signed a framework agreement with NSCN-IM with a hidden agenda.
Given this scenario, people of Manipur should be ever vigilant, Gaikhangam asserted.
Had BJP Manipur leaders declared that they would quit BJP if the framework agreement contains anything inimical to the collective interest of Manipur, then the BJP candidates may be elected.
"But they are not making any such declaration.
Does it mean they have no objection to disintegration of Manipur?", asked the Deputy Chief Minister.
The by-election has been necessitated because the two MLAs who were elected for five year terms could not walk the path of a people's representative.
This is a tragedy resulting out of electing men who grew up as contractors and who are novices in politics.
Re-electing those people who have no idea about their duties would mean a great loss for the masses.
Blaming the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister for their disqualification which was done strictly in accordance to the 10th Schedule for party hopping is rather ridiculous, he remarked.
He then appealed to all the electorates of Thangmeiband to forgive Jyotin even if he had committed any wrongs in the past.
PHE Minister I Hemochandra, MLAs K Ranjit, N Loken and Mahila Congress president L Tilotama were also present at the election rally.
