Central team in Imphal reviews implementation of PC&PNDT Act

Imphal, November 06 2015 :
A team comprising of three officials led by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi, Under Secretary Dr DK Sahu is in Manipur for the North East Regional Review Meeting on Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act 1994 or PC & PNDT Act.
The central team along with representatives from the Northeast on Friday held a review meeting at the Classic Hotel to assess whether or not PC & PNDT Act has been effectively implemented in the region.
The Central representatives conferred with the Directors, Deputy Directors and Joint Directors of Family Welfare (FW) Departments of the eight Northeast States.
The meeting also discussed how authorities including doctors, sonographers and radiologists have reacted to the Act and their response so far.
The Central team is likely to take further steps during their four-day visit.
Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Director of FW Dr P Dutta; Dr A Perme, Mozoram's Director (FW) Dr Zonunsiama; Nagaland's Joint Director (FW), SNO (PNDT) Dr Kevingulie Khro; Meghalaya's State Nodal Officer (SNO); Sikkim's Joint Director, SNO Dr Goutam; Tripura's SNO Dr Smriti Sanker and Assam's Director participated in the review meeting.
Manipur was represented by State Family Welfare Department Director and State Appropriate Authority Chairman Dr K Rajo and SNO N Arun apart from officers, SAA, SAC, PNDT Cells, Chief Medical Officers and District Officers-in-Charge.
