Imphal, November 21 2015 :
The All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has urged Education Minister M Okendro to revoke the order on removal of Additional English from Classes IX and X syllabi.
In a memorandum, ANSAM highlighted to the Education Minister that many small tribes do not fulfil the criteria for recognition of their languages and students from these tribes are compelled to study the language of other communities against their will.
Students from major tribes whose dialects are recognised and who are studying outside of their native place are facing problem due to unavailability of language teachers.
Many tribal students are studying in Imphal where they will not get their language teachers.
With the improvement in education sector, many students from outside the State are coming to study in the State.
However, with the deletion of Additional English from the scheme of study, they have been faced with the problem of studying other languages which are not their mother tongues.
This will prevent them to study in the State in the future, ANSAM pointed out.
ANSAM then urged the Education Minister to revoke the order and introduce all the languages including Additional English as optional in the scheme of study to enable students exercise freedom of choice as per the RTE Act.
