As a move to promote coexistence and mutual understanding among various communities of the State, paper dolls representing the diverse culture of Manipur are all set to enthral the visitors of the Manipur Sangai Festival 2015 .
The paper doll was conceptualised by Kenny Ngairangbam of Nagamapal and Yanglem Manimohan of Uripok.
Kenny and Manimohan started the project under a brand name 'KOK Designs' .
During the Sangai Festival, the paper dolls which are collectively known as 'Lai' will represent each community like Meitei, Thadou-Kuki, Rongmei, Mizo, Tangkhul, Pangal (Manipuri Muslim), Gangte, Mao, Maram, Monshang, Anal and Maring.
Similar paper dolls representing tribes of Nagaland will also be displayed.
Though the whole concept was a brainchild of Kenny and Manimohan, the designs were printed in Delhi to ensure fine print quality.
Besides the paper dolls, T-shirts, bags and calendar depicting the cultures of various communities will be put on display during the festival.
Efforts to add rest of the communities of the State and also to produce similar wooden dolls are underway, informed Kenny.
Kenny said that the initiative is to cultivate people's knowledge on diverse culture of the State and to promote mutual respect, understanding and peaceful coexistence which are the need of the hour.
Kenny completed his bachelor degree from the Institute of Fine Arts, Delhi and Manimohan completed his post graduate in advertising.
