Imphal, November 21 2015 :
"We are here to win'', declares Jared Sheldon, captain of the US Polo team as it takes on Manipur, the winner of the last edition in the opening match of the 9th Manipur Polo International 2015.Promising to put up a good show and exuding supreme confidence, Jared predicts this match is going to be "a preview of the final" .
The American team playing under the banner of United States Polo Association, is represented by Jared Sheldon (Captain), Peter Blake, Remy Moeller, Pedro Lara and Josh Shelton.
Interestingly, all of them started off as grooms and rose up to be counted among the top polo players of USA.
Jared Sheldon who is from California is the highest ranked player with a handicap of 4 while the rest of his team mates have handicap 2 .
One can expect good coordination and understanding among the US players as three of them Jared, Peter and Remy play for the same team, the Texas Polo Club based in Houston.
While Peter Blake who has been here before, was happy to be back again, Jared revealed how excited he is to be playing in a place steeped in history as far as the game of Polo goes and in a place which is arguably considered the oldest Pologround in the world.
Sizing up the Maninpuri Pony, which he was riding for the first time, the US captain said it is fast, seems to have stamina and endurance comparable to the bigger horses which are used as mounts for polo.
Also, because of its lower height it is comparatively easier to hit the ball.
While playing on the Manipuri Pony, he feels the trick is to release the ball fast and hard, making for a fast paced game which the spectators will find entertaining.
We hope this first match between USA and Manipur turns out exactly that.
