I want to meet Prime Minister Modi: Irom Sharmila

Anti-AFSPA crusader Irom Chanu Sharmi has expressed her ardent desire to meet the new Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi to press her demand for the repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), 1958 .
Talking to media persons after coming out from the courtroom of CJM Imphal East located at Lamphelpat here today, Sharmila said that she would like to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during her upcoming visit to New Delhi for appearing before the Patiala House Court in connection with a case.
"I hope the new BJP-led NDA Government will surely heed to my words, and lift the AFSPA from the soil of Manipur", Sharmila said.
Irom Sharmila is scheduled to depart Imphal for New Delhi on May 27 and return on May 29.The Patiala House Court has ordered her to appear before the Court in connection with a case filed by Delhi Police under section 309 of IPC (attempt to commit suicide) .
The "Iron Lady" has also been accused of attempting to commit suicide by Manipur Police, and a charge-sheet hearing is underway at the court of CJM Imphal East.
She was brought before the CJM Court today in connection with the second charge-sheet hearing.
The jail authorities today failed to submit Sharmila's mental and physical fitness report which the Court had asked in the previous hearing.
Sharmila's counsel Khaidem Mani contended that the failure of the jail authorities to submit the fitness report tantamount to contempt of court, and prayed to the Court to initiate contempt proceeding against the SP (Prisons) .
Government's counsel Th Kunjabihari pleaded the Court not to initiate contempt proceeding against the SP (Prisons) stating that Sharmila's mental and physical test was conducted by the JNIMS authorities, but the report was yet to be prepared.
After hearing the statements of both the counsels, the CJM ordered the SP (Prisons) to appear before the Court on May 24 and submit Sharmila's fitness report on that day.
Meanwhile, the accused in the rape case of a 13-year-old girl, special contractor Ngoupuni (65) has been remanded to judicial custody for 15 days by the Court of Session Judge, Manipur East today.
