Agreements inked, KSO suspends bandh

With Education Minister M Okendro agreeing to some of the demands put up by student organisations with respect to the conduct of the TET examination, the Kuki Students' Organisation has suspended the proposed 48 hours State wide bandh scheduled to come into force from tomorrow.
In a statement issued to the press today, KSO said that as per the agreements reached with the Education Minister, TET forms would now be made available at all the district headquarters through the DCs and ZEOs concerned.
The demand to extend the last date of submission of TET forms has also been considered and the forms would now be made available for a longer duration of time, added the student body.
Moreover the date of the TET examination has also been deferred and a convenient date will be fixed soon.
On the proposal that the examination centres for TET be opened in all the district headquarters, the student body said that the Education Minister assured that the matter would be looked into seriously, so that "TET examination centres may be opened at all the district head-quarters from next year.
The intricacies and technical problems involved in shifting the exam centres at short notice were duly considered, said the KSO and added that TET exam centres would be opened in every district headquarters from next year.
The agreements were reached during a meeting convened by the Education Minister.
Other than representatives of the KSO and DESAM, MLAs from the hill districts and members of the Manipur State Education Consultative Committee were present at the meeting.
The MLAs included Vungzagin Valte MLA of Thanlon Assembly Constituency, MK Preshow MLA of Chingai Assembly Constituency, Nemcha Kipgen MLA of Kangpokpi Assembly Constituency, Z Kikhonbou Newmai MLA of Tamei Assembly Constituency, Victor Nonglur MLA of Chandel Assembly Constituency and Dr Alexander Pou MLA of Karong Assembly Constituency.
Principal Secretary (Education School) and Dr Suresh Babu, Education Director H Deleep Singh were also present.
After deliberating on the demands raised by student organisations, the agreements were arrived at.
A statement issued by Education Minister M Okendro said that apart from agreeing to make TET forms available at all the district headquarters, the demand to extend the last date of submission of forms was also accepted.
In view of the SSC examination falling on the same day as the TET examination, it was decided that another convenient date would be fixed for holding the TET examination.
On the proposal for opening TET examination centres at all the district headquarters, the Education Minister gave his assurance that the matter would be seriously looked into and all steps would be taken up to hold the TET examinations in the district headquarters in the nearest possible future.
