2 killed, 24 injured in road mishaps

Imphal, May 07 2012:
At least two people have been killed while 24 others injured in road related accidents which occurred in different parts of the state.
The injured persons have been treated in different hospitals of Imphal.
A person who was hit by a truck (MN01/5532) at Khurai Nandeibam Leikai yesterday at around 9 pm succumbed to injuries.
The person has been identified as one Koijam Ibungo (38), s/o K Kumarjit of Khurai Nandeibam Leikai.
The body of the deceased was handed over to the family by Porompat Police after post mortem at RIMS today.
Another person who was undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital after he was hit by a Honda Activa (MN05B/4641) on May 5 at Bishnupur Bazaar near UCO Bank, also succumbed to his injuries this morning.
The victim was one JD Chongdum Chiru (52), s/o JD Selenthoi of Khoirok village.
Meanwhile, 21 pilgrims sustained injuries when a bus (MN01/1058) in which they were travelling met with an accident at Khwairakpam area.
The incident took place at around 7:30pm yesterday while the pilgrims were coming back after worshipping Thangjing God at Moirang.
The injured pilgrims included 19 women and 2 men.
The injured persons have been treated at RIMS, Shija Hospital and Raj Poly Clinic.
In yet another road mishap, a Maruti van (MN01/1525) which was heading towards Imphal from Moreh was hit by a bullet proof vehicle of 42AR stationed at Bongyang, at a place between Sinam and Bongyang at around 2 pm today.
Three persons including one man and two women who were in the vehicle sustained injuries in the mishap.
All the three injured victims have been brought to Imphal for treatment.
Tengnoupal Police has registered a case in the regard.
On the other hand, an armoured vehicle (MN05T/0773) of the Army collided with an Alto car (MN1A/5854) at Waheng Leikai traffic island today at around 2:30pm.No one was hurt in the incident though the rear glass of the car was broken.
