Meitei Pangal Women Development Welfare Association (MPWDWA), Jiribam has organized a sit-in protest at the front of its office at around 12.30 pm at Babupara, Jiribam District yesterday and used placards which read as "Withdraw Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016", "Save Indigenous People" and "Protect Northeast People" .
Speaking on the sideline of the protest, Samsad Begum, Asst Secy, MPWDWA, Jiribam said that the passage of contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), 2016 in Lok Sabha on January 8 is highly condemnable which will allow naturalisation of illegal migrants from other countries especially in the North East region of India which will completely change the demographic of the region and will increase the vulnerability of the indigenous population.
Sharing her apprehension that the North East region of India will become a dumping ground for foreigners soon if the said Bill becomes an act, the Asst secy urged the all the people of NE states that it is time for all to come together as one to voice out our dissent against the Bill collectively to save the political rights, cultural identities and economy of the indigenous population of the region.
